CIPFA Graduate Trainee
Job description
Chelmsford City Council is looking for an ambitious and dedicated person to join our Accountancy team on a CIPFA apprenticeship.
As an Accountancy Graduate Trainee, we will equip you with a broad range of skills and experiences, leading to the CIPFA (Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy) Professional Accountancy Qualification. This will
provide you with the best start to your career in public finance and accounting. Further information about CIPFA can be found on http://www.cipfa.org
The Council will fund your Accountancy Professional Level 7 apprenticeship (accounting qualification) and provide you with the required time to undertake your studies.
Local Authorities are large public bodies and consequently we can offer you a wide range of experience. Within the Council we:
• Support 1400+ employees
• Work with more than 2,500 suppliers ranging from sole traders and small businesses to large corporates and multinationals
• Have an estimated gross revenue expenditure on public services of around £90 million per year, funded via the fees and charges for services, collection of Council Tax and Business rates and central government grants.
• A capital programme of £100m plus
The successful applicant will work within the Accountancy function, providing specialist advice and support to services within the organisation. As progress is made through the studies, more of the challenges and opportunities the role offers will be taken on and with it the increase in Grade and Scale Points.
The portfolio of skills and experience you will build with Chelmsford City Council, alongside a professional qualification will put you in an excellent position to build a successful career. A number of our apprentices have remained within the Council in more senior accounting or audit roles.
Chelmsford City Council has recently implemented a brand new, state of the art, finance system. Candidates with strong computing skills and a good understanding of logical processes will have the opportunity to support the ongoing development of our system.
We are looking for a team player with an eye for detail but who can also think creatively to challenge. To be considered for this role you must have a degree or be expecting to graduate by summer 2022.
The post holder will be required to work 37 hours per week, which includes time off for study and training time during the week. The Council offers flexible working and a career average pension.
You will be expected to work in the office to begin with as you learn about the role but will be able to work from home more frequently as you develop your skills.
Chelmsford City Council is committed to safeguarding vulnerable groups and expects all employees to share this commitment and have a range of policies and procedures in place which promote safeguarding and safer working practices across our services. The Council's Safer Recruitment process contains pre-employment vetting which includes safeguarding training, obtaining references and ensuring compliance with Disclosure and Barring Service process.
